Selling a House During Divorce or Separation
When a relationship ends, the house often becomes the last thing holding two lives together. A drawn-out listing keeps both parties tied to a property, a mortgage and each other for longer than either wants.
Certainty over months of showings
A defined closing date lets both people plan their next housing arrangement. That is usually worth more than the last few percent of price when everything else is unsettled.
Both owners must agree
Anyone on title has to consent to the sale. Where a matrimonial home is involved there may be additional protections in provincial law, which your lawyer will explain.
How the money is handled
The mortgage is paid out on closing and the balance goes wherever the lawyers or a court order direct. We do not get involved in how the proceeds are divided.
Want to know what Renvo could offer?
Start with the property address and a phone number — the rest is optional.
How it works
Know what comes next.
Three straightforward stages, with no pressure at any point along the way.
- 01
Tell us about the property
Share the address, how to reach you, and a short set of details about the home — including anything that needs work.
- 02
Talk through the details
We review what you sent and may follow up with questions. Not every property is one we can make an offer on — if it is a fit, we explain the terms clearly.
- 03
Choose your next step
Take the time you need. If you decide to move ahead, the closing date and remaining details are agreed together as part of the sale.

Questions people ask
- Can one of us sell without the other?
- No. Everyone on title must agree to a sale.
- Can you close on a specific date the court has set?
- Tell us the date and we will be direct about whether it is workable.
- Do you deal with both lawyers?
- Yes, that is normal in a separation sale.
